As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. That has definitely been true in my classroom this month. We have been reading all kinds of books about flowers and spring and making crafts to go along with them, Below are a few of our favorite flower crafts.

We read the book Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert.

We then made our own rainbow flowers using dixie cups. The kids cut simple lines on the cups to make the petals.

They used acrylic paint to paint each petal different colors.

We also read the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. The story is about a girl who is named after a flower. We used this book to talk about how many letters are in our names.

For this project we used paper plates to make the flowers. Again the kids  made simple cuts on the paper plate to make flower petals. After painting the petals they used stickers to place their names on the flowers. They had to identify the letters and then put them in the correct order on the flowers. Then they counted how many letters are in their names. This project was a hit with my kids because it involved stickers!

We read the book Shapes by Robert Crowther. The book showed us how shapes can be made in to all different things. My kids made flower collages using all different shapes.

My kids were super creative with their collages. This project took a few days for each one to be completed and the kids were very proud of them when they were all done!
