It’s that time of year. The honeymoon period is over and you have a pretty good picture of  your students. Hopefully, most of the assessments are done (for now), and most of your kiddos know the school routine. This means it is time to start digging into all the fun planning and data collection!   Depending on your role as a special education teacher planning can take place in a variety of ways.

I love to use this amazing web template for planning out my months and unit themes.  This is an easy and quick way to visually plan. There can be so many activities you want to do for the month, and this allows you to organize them by the core learning areas for preschoolers.  On the back side there is space to organize notes on materials you need to make, print, or buy!

These webs are also a great way to display in your classroom what you are working on! We hang up it outside our classroom door to show parents and administration what we are learning this month.  A copy is also sent home with students so parent’s who may not drop their student off at school knows what we are working on in school.

How to Use:  Depending on your role, this template can be used in a variety of ways.

  • Co-Teaching: The GenEd and SpEd teacher can use this template to plan together and come up with activities that generally meet the needs of all the students in the classroom. The special education teacher can then accordingly plan for modifications and accommodations.
  •  Resource Pull In or Push or In: The GenEd teacher can use the web to plan and give a copy to the SpEd teacher. The SpEd teacher will then be able to alter the activities to met students IEP Goals or incorporate activity themes into already planned materials.
  • Self-Contained: Special Education teachers can use this web to plan out fun activities directly related to students IEP Goals. Because you most likely have a range of student needs you can decode activities by color or initials to make sure you’re meeting all goals.   Or if you have a small caseload 8-15 students it might be easier to make a web for each student.
