As the winter season approaches there are so many fun activities you can do with snow, holidays, candy canes, and gingerbread men & houses!  You can find several interactive file folders and adapted books related to to winter and the holidays at our Teacher Pay Teacher Store!

Today I am going to give you a few ideas for incorparting academic objectives using gingerbread material!

One of my favorite things to do with students is read adapted books! Adapted books are great because students can work on multiple objectives: reading visuals, following directions, and a math concept (i.e. counting, prepositions, matching colors, etc.). My students love these books because they are fun and interactive. You can read these books with one students, a group, or the whole class! Here is the free adapted book called “Gingerbread Boy, Gingerbread Boy, What do you see??   Students work on identifying numbers and connecting them to the correct quantity of buttons.

After reading the book, I made a quick assessment activity that also doubled as a craft! I made gingerbread men flash cards with numbers 1-10 and the students review identifying numbers. Then they choose a favorite number and connected the correct quantities of buttons to their number.

Another fun activity to do with Gingerbread men is sorting by color. I created gingerbread men in different colors and then laminated them, for future re-use. Then I found corresponding colors in pom poms for the students to sort! This activity can be done in groups, individually or with other materials such as buttons.

I hope a these activities are helpful! There are so many other fun crafts to do with gingerbreads! Please comment below with any questions or other ideas for gingerbreads crafts and activities!
