Hello everyone! My name is Cinthya and I am so excited to be part of the team at The Elementary Helper! I have been teaching for seven years in a variety of different settings. I taught in a Head Start program with free and income based classrooms; in a pre-kindergarten classroom in a public school; and in a variety of ESL and bilingual settings. Besides pre-kindergarten I have experience teaching kindergarten, and two years of summer school for third graders.  Currently I am teaching in a blended, ESL classroom with Cheyenne.

A career highlight was to have passed NAEYC accreditation with my first school.  It was hard work and the hours were long; but we passed and it felt amazing. I knew that we were holding ourselves to high standards and that we were doing what was best for our students.  I know that no matter how long the days get, or how hard the work seems, we all want the same for our students- success.

My favorite thing to do in the classroom is listen to the students talk to each other.  They are so smart and funny! There isn’t a single day I don’t laugh out loud (multiple times). If you’re curious about the hilarious things that have made me laugh today, follow us on Instagram @TheElementaryHelper and look for #OverheardInPreK and #TeamPreK. These kids should be on late night tv.

On my free time I love to cook, dine alfresco, and travel. I also spend most of my time riding my scooter during the warm months.  Last year I got to visit India and experience all of my favorite things- food, dining, and scooter riding while being a mentor to a brand-spankin new teacher in Hyderabad.  It was the experience of a lifetime.

I am so excited to be part of the team and hope we can have strong conversations about our diverse students, their communities, and the best practices (and resources) to help them become college ready.

Keep the conversation going and let me know what’s the funniest thing you’ve heard from your students?  Tell me below and don’t forget #OverheardInPreK.
