Hi Everyone! I am Cheyenne and I am really excited to join the Elementary Helper blog. I hope to give you an insight to life of a special education preschool teacher and any helpful materials or ideas for your class or student. To start, I will give you a little background information about myself!
- I have taught special education preschool in a blended classroom setting for 3 years.
- My school is located in an urban setting and services over 95% low income students and families.
- I’ve worked with a variety of diverse learners with a majority being development delayed.
- In my spare time I privately tutor and nanny diverse learner children.
Why do I love preschool so much? Well my answer is, what’ s not love?? Okay, so I am sure there are a billion reasons running through your head right now, of what not to love about preschool. But, in reality it’s the kiddos. Yes, they have their moments. But their innocent, empathetic, and joyful minds will fill your heart with so much happiness. I love that as a preschool teacher you get to watch their amazing growth over the course of 2 and sometimes 3 years. They really are incredible little humans. (If you aren’t a preschool teacher and need a moment of laughter or relaxation, don’t be afraid to stop into a preschool classroom).
Just for fun. My two favorite classroom materials that I couldn’t live without as a special teacher are: “I am working for” charts and a sensory table. Here is the link to a previous blog written by Sasha about how and why these charts work and do wonders for your students (and you)!
The sensory table we use in our classroom is the four tub set from lakeshore learning. Currently it is filled with magnetic sand, small balls, spaghetti strips, and ABC manipulatives. You can change the manipulative based on your unit theme. The kids absolute loving going to this center!
