We recently read The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle in my classroom. The story about a ladybug who is in a bad mood and wants to fight all kinds of animals bigger than himself was loved by my preschoolers. Only two of my kids knew what the word grouchy meant before we read this story. It was fun to hear the kids use a new vocabulary word throughout our day. This book led to a very interesting discussion on what makes each of my preschoolers grouchy. I definitely got some very funny answers!

The kids were all given 2 large black circles, 2 red wings and as many small black circles as they wanted to use. The question I asked during this project was when are you grouchy like the ladybug? The kids really thought about this question and I got so many different answers. The kids were encouraged to put the ladybugs together however they wanted and I love how each ladybug came out differently!
